Hallmark and Cake Mix

I thought that there wasn't much Chad could do anymore that would surprise me. But wow, he got me twice now in two days.

I usually sign any cards that we give out, I don't know why, I just do. That changed last night while I was in getting ready to go to Chad's Mom's for her birthday. I came out to get the card ready and Chad proudly handed it to me sealed and addressed to "Mom". I quizzically looked at him and the conversation went like this:

T: Did you sign it?

C: Yeah.

T: What did you write?

C: Love, Chad and Trudi.

T: That's it? Not; We love you, your a wonderful Mom.

C: No, why would I write that?

T: Because your supposed to write something nice in the card, not just your name.

C: Then whats the point of buying a card? If you have to write something, why don't you just write it on a piece of paper? That's what the card is for. And look, it's even a Hallmark.

As bad as I wanted to, I even tried for half a second, but I just couldn't argue with that. He's right, and now I know why all these years, cards from him have just been signed; Love Chad.

For surprise # 2, he was making a cake and I could hear liquid being stirred around in the bowl. It didn't sound right to me so I asked him what he was doing. "Making a cake" he said. I asked what was in the bowl and he said "eggs, water, and oil". Of course, I told him he wasn't mixing it right, that you put the mix in the bowl first, then you put in the rest of the ingredients. Not the other way around. "Trudi", he said. "Just relax, I've made a hundred cakes."
OK, I'm relaxing. It smells good and I guess it doesn't matter how he makes it. He said I could have the leftovers in the bowl all by myself if I made the cake. I didn't want to, so now I will just relax. He gave me the bowl and a spoon anyway. What a guy.

  1. I too almost always write someting in the card as well, like with Christmas Cards, I'll write Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year, depending on what the card says I guess you wouldn't have to put anything. But it makes it nice to have something written in the card from the ones you love.
For the cake making, I'm not saying your wrong Mom at how you cook I love your food, everyone does their own thing. But I was taught in my College Cooking class in High School, that when you are cooking, mostly in baking, wet ingredients go in the bowl first, especially like breads and cookies. So I have always put the wet ingredients in the bowl first then the dry.

  2. Huh, that's kinda funny........Mike was baking this weekend too (with me)haha, and guess what? The recipe called to mix all wet ingredients first and gradually mix in dry. Well he had the dry in my "old" glass mixing bowl and the wet in just a tupperware bowl so I was a little cranky and asked him to dump the wet into the dry because I wanted to mix the cookie batter in the "old" glass mixing bowl!! He did and guess what, I don't know why for sure, but that batch of cookies did not turn out well. I think I was one cup of flour short, I'm sure he's guessing it's the way it was mixed. We will never know because the next batch was perfect and we mixed it his way "according to the recipe" but in the right bowls "my way" and I made sure I measured all the ingredients correctly. Anyway, we had fun............How did the cake turn out, when it was done?

  3. That may be true Kaylynn, when baking from scratch. But his cake was from a box and it says to "empty cake mix into a bowl. Add water, eggs and oil."
How am I to know? I don't cook/bake. That is his job which is why I sat back and relaxed. The cake turned out fine, tasted as good as it smelled. I just won't watch him next time, then I won't get so bossy.
